Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Account information: name, email address, and authentication data when you create an account (including via Google OAuth)
  • Content you provide: recordings you upload and the questions you ask about them
  • Usage data: information about how you interact with the Service, including pages visited and features used
  • Payment information: billing details processed through our payment provider (Stripe); we do not store full payment card details

2. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide and operate the Service, including transcribing and searching your recordings
  • Manage your account and subscriptions
  • Communicate with you about the Service
  • Improve and develop new features
  • Enforce our Terms of Service, investigate reports, protect against misuse, and respond to legal requests

3. Data Retention

Recordings and their transcripts are stored for as long as you keep them. You can delete any recording from its page at any time, which removes the video from our video provider's storage as well as the transcript and every answer derived from it. We do not delete on an automatic schedule. An earlier version of this policy stated that files were deleted within 24 hours of processing; that was not accurate, and this section describes what actually happens. Your account information is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate ClipIt:

  • Mux — for direct browser upload, video transcoding, caption generation, storage, playback and automated thumbnail-based content-safety review
  • Anthropic — for analysing transcripts to find the passages that answer your question
  • Vercel — for web application hosting, analytics, and AI request routing
  • Neon — for the database storing your account, recordings metadata and results
  • Stripe — for payment processing and subscription management
  • Google — for OAuth authentication
  • Resend — for transactional email (verification, password reset)

Recordings are uploaded directly from your browser to Mux; they do not pass through ClipIt's application server. Mux processes and stores the media and may process the audio to generate captions as part of the Service. Each third-party service processes data in accordance with its own privacy policy and terms, and we encourage you to review them.

5. Content Safety and Reports

We may review a recording, its metadata, or a report about it when necessary to investigate suspected abuse, enforce our Terms, protect users and our systems, or comply with law. We may restrict or remove content and may retain limited account and operational records needed to investigate an incident, respond to a legal request, or prevent repeated abuse.

Mux Robots samples thumbnails from an uploaded video and returns content-safety scores for sexual and violent visual signals. ClipIt stores the moderation status, selected maximum scores, job usage, and operational timestamps with the recording. If the configured threshold is exceeded, ClipIt blocks processing and asks Mux to remove public playback identifiers; the source asset may remain retained for an operator decision, support investigation, deletion, or a lawful request.

ClipIt does not represent that every upload is scanned for viruses or that automated systems can identify every prohibited, illegal, or infringing item. The upload acknowledgement is an abuse-control measure, not a safety guarantee. To report suspected prohibited content, contact support@clipit.now with a link or identifying details; please do not email illegal material itself.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data
  • Delete your personal data and account
  • Data portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used format
  • Object to processing of your personal data in certain circumstances
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on your consent

You can delete your account yourself from the account page. It removes your account, every recording and transcript, and every answer — including the video held by our video provider. For anything else, contact us at support@clipit.now and we will respond within 30 days.

7. Cookies & Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics to collect aggregated page and feature usage data about how visitors interact with the Service. This helps us understand usage patterns and improve the product. Our server also records a small set of product lifecycle outcomes — for example, whether a recording, search, export, or subscription reached a ready or failed state. Those events contain fixed category labels only; they never include recording content, questions, titles, account identifiers, email addresses, or video and payment-provider IDs. If analytics consent was already accepted when Google creates a new ClipIt account, a short-lived first-party marker remembers only that the signup method was Google and is deleted after that event. Without consent, no marker is stored and no Google signup analytics event is sent. We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

8. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls, authenticated upload creation, rate limits, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security or that an uploaded file is free of malware.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting a notice on the Service or by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

11. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or our data practices, please contact us at support@clipit.now.
